Hello and welcome to thatlaplandlife.com—a space where we share the highs, lows, and magic of living in Lapland. We’re Steve and Bex, a couple who left behind the daily grind in the UK to start a new life in the Arctic north of Finland. This site is our way of connecting with fellow adventurers, dreamers, and curious souls who want to know more about what it’s really like to live differently in one of the most beautiful and remote regions of the world.
We are so happy to be able to share this place with everybody and look forward to hearing your questions and experiences as we all learn together on this journey.
If you would like to see what we’re getting up to at the moment then you can find us on TikTok or Instagram.

We’re often asked, “Why did you move to Lapland?”
The short answer is simple: we wanted to live differently. We were searching for a new adventure.
Our lives had become a never-ending cycle of work, eat, sleep, repeat. There just weren’t enough hours in the day to get everything done—let alone enjoy the things we loved.
Several years ago, we realised something needed to change. And if change was going to happen, it had to start with us. So, we began exploring new ways of living. We looked into different countries, alternative lifestyles, and income opportunities abroad.
Lapland became our dream destination after a spontaneous holiday in February 2020. It was just before the pandemic brought international travel to a halt. But even in that short visit, something clicked.
As soon as we landed at Kuusamo Airport and began the transfer to Ruka ski resort, we were captivated. The snowy landscapes, peaceful forests, quiet roads, and crisp clean air completely won us over.
That trip planted the seed—and we’ve never looked back.

So, what’s happening now? How are we making life work here in Lapland?
We’ve converted an old American school bus into a unique Airbnb glamping unit. It’s now set up on our land, ready to welcome guests. We rent it out to travellers and anyone looking to escape the ordinary.
If you’re curious about the bus or want to check availability, you can visit our listing at Midnight Sun Skoolie.
Our location offers peace, quiet, and fresh air all year round. We’re also close to some of the best hiking trails in Finland. Of course, if you’d rather relax, the fire pit is always a cosy spot to unwind.
